The Regata Storica: The Historical Regatta of Venice

Date of the Regata Storica 2026

The next Regata Storica in Venice will take place on 6 September 2026.

This is “the” Venetian festival, whose origins date back to the 13th century.
It brings together all social classes and generations. Beautiful and exciting, long live the Regata Storica!

In addition to these boat races, which stir up passions every year, there is the famous historical procession with a bucintore, the Doge in his gondola, accompanied by the Queen of Cyprus, Catarina Corner, and the gondolas of the ambassadors.

La Serenissima relives its splendour, and the Venetians can once again shout " Il Doge! Il Doge!" as his gondola passes by. Venice is great, Venice is here! !

La Festa della Sensa

Date of the 2026 Festa della Sensa in Venice: 17 May 2026. Departure from the Dogana da Mar at 10:00 am for the Lido.

The Sensa Festival takes place every year on the Sunday closest to Ascension Day.

During this festival celebrating the marriage of Venice and the sea, the Doge would throw a gold ring into the lagoon as a sign of marriage.

Rumour has it that the ring was then retrieved...

Today, it is the Mayor of Venice or one of his representatives who repeats this act of union with all the local, military and religious officials.

The Mayor and dignitaries board the Serenissima at Piazzetta San Marco and, accompanied by a procession of boats from the Venetian Voga alla Veneta rowing clubs, travel to the church of San Nicolo del Lido, in front of which the ceremony of union with the sea takes place. Today, this union consists of throwing a wreath of flowers into the sea.

The Vogalonga in Venice Venezia

The Redentore Day Festival, the Sagra

The Feast of the Redeemer or Festa del Redentore takes place every year on the eve of the third Sunday in July in and around St. Mark's Basin and on the island of Giudecca.

It is a particularly impressive event, with a procession on a floating pontoon connecting Venice to Giudecca, fireworks, boat races... The big game!

The Venice Marathon

The date of the 2025 Venice Marathon: The 39th Venice Marathon will be held on 26 October 2025

Saint Martin's Day in Venice

Festa delle Marie - Feast of the Maries

The Festa delle Marie is said to be the oldest festival in Venice.

The Feast of the Maries was established to commemorate Venice's victory in 943 (or 944, depending on the source) over pirates who had come to challenge the city by kidnapping twelve young girls during the traditional Wedding Festival in the church of San Pietro del Castello, in the presence of the Doge and their future husbands.

The Feast of the Madonna della Salute

For more than three centuries, on 21 November, the Venetians have made their pilgrimage to the church of La Salute to pray to the Virgin Mary and give her thanks.

As their ancestors have done since the plague of 1630-1631 ravaged their city, they cross the Grand Canal on a floating bridge that connects San Marco directly to La Salute.
