Émile-Antoine Bourdelle “Bust of Anatole France” at Ca' Pesaro International Modern Art Gallery in Venice Italy
Sculpture - Bronze (70.3 x 46 x 37 cm) 1924Émile-Antoine Bourdelle (1861-1929) began his career as a sculptor as a practitioner in Auguste Rodin's studio.
He worked with Rodin for 15 years and then began his career with a style deviated from Rodin's one to ancient and medieval sculpture.
His "Heracles Archer" brought him an international success, growing, amplifying after his friend Rodin's Death because he had become the most significant French sculptor still alive, which brought him numerous orders until his end.
Bourdelle taught at the Académie de la Grande Chaumière in Montparnasse, and his students included Aristide Maillol, Henri Matisse, Germaine Richier and Alberto Giacometti.
His bust of writer Anatole France (1844-1924) is one of his masterpieces.
Anatole France and André Gide were among his most incredible supporters.
A bronze bust “alive”, Anatole France is there, very present, focused on writing his next book.
