United States of America “Everlasting Plastics” Venice International Architecture Biennale
The exhibition responds to our concern about the plastic that has become omnipresent in our lives and its environmental impact. The five artists exhibited in the United States of America Pavilion (Xavi Laida Aguirre, Simon Anton, Ang Li, Norman Teague, and Lauren Yeager) try to show us how to coexist with plastic and its derivatives.
Most of the works presented were made from recycled materials.
You can thus see barriers and other metallic objects that the artist Simon Anton has covered with plastics of all colours, such as coloured candies.
Equally colourful recycled plastic baskets were created by Norman Teague and are displayed in the centre of the pavilion, in its rotunda.
Before leaving the pavilion, you pass along a large brick and white stone wall created by the artist Ang Li.
These walls and bricks are, in fact, nothing but expanded polystyrene, a material that is often invisible yet included everywhere around us in the walls and ceilings of our buildings.
