Banga Colectivo “Soba Eternal” Venice International Architecture Biennale
Banga Colectivo The word “Banga” in modern, urban Angolan slang means having your own style and translates into high self-esteem often found in the clothes you wear and how you wear them.
The “Banga” is, therefore, an essential element of identity.
An identity claimed by the members of the Banga collective against the colonial discourse that has shown and still shows Africans as uneducated and uncivilised.
The “Soba” was a king, a regional authority that ruled in an organised and hierarchical structure called “Sobado”, the precursor of current democratic governments.
The “Soba Eternal” exhibition aims to understand and show how history can be transformed and used to help us adapt as best as possible to the new realities of our time.
