Germany Open for Maintenance Venice International Architecture Biennale
The theme of the German Pavilion at this 2023 Architecture Biennale is “Open for Maintenance”.
Germany Open for Maintenance The project promoters wanted to reuse and present abandoned materials from more than 40 national pavilions at the Venice Art Biennale 2022 in their pavilion.
The state of mind of the German Pavilion is “as found” since the exhibition was entirely made with materials abandoned from the previous Biennale and coming from forty national pavilions.
The assembly of these materials was done in such a way as to create new spaces and meanings while recycling the waste abandoned after each Venice Art or Architecture Biennale.
Various spaces are presented, such as the kitchen, the meeting room, the bathroom/toilet or the storage of materials.
The “Open for Maintenance” project also raises questions about empty or poor-condition social housing in Venice, while it is becoming more and more difficult for Venetians to find accommodation in their city because of the excessive rent price due to the influx of tourists.
