Elaine Cameron-Weir “Low Relief Icon” “Right Hand Left Hand, grinds a Fantasier’s Dust” Venice Biennale Art Exhibition
Elaine Cameron-Weir was born in 1950 in Canada, she lives and works in New York. Her works are exhibited in the central pavilion of the Biennale at the Giardini.
Elaine Cameron-Weir's sculptures are made of metal, glass, cement and stone, and ephemeral elements such as flames or lights.
“Low Relief Icon (Figure 1) and Low Relief Icon (Figure 2)” was made in 2021 with two metal coffins of the US Army where lamps with flickering light are placed as candles.
A metal carpet, on which are hung two tin discs with religious signs, is installed vertically in front of the two coffins.
A work dedicated to the heroism of those who gave their lives in the service of a State that disposes of it as it pleases.
“Right Hand Left Hand, Grinds a Fantasier's Dust”, produced in 2021, presents itself as a portico illuminated by neon tubes on twists of burial cloth to signal the hope of salvation in the afterlife.
