Jonathas de Andrade “Play of the Body” “Como o coraçao saindo pela boca” Venice Biennale Art Exhibition
Jonathas de Andrade was born in 1982 Maceio in Brazil, he lives and works in Recife (Brazil). His works are exhibited in the Brazil Pavilion of the Biennale at the Giardini.
“Play of the Body” “Como o coraçao saindo pela boca” is the title of this exhibition of the works of Jonathas de Andrade at the Brazil Pavilion.
Bodies parts screaming the pain, the despair, the violence suffered for decades by the Brazilian people.
Fragmented bodies, cut up, glued together, superimposed in such a way as to show us the absurd, the immoderation and the inability of Brazilians to manage their daily lives, to decide their future, their lives.
Their heart is detached from them, enlarged, carried by hands with chained fingers.
Jonathas de Andrade also shows the control of the daily lives of Brazilians by their successive governments; they no longer “see”, they can no longer see or even hear.
Here we see an eye ready to be punctured by the tip of a pair of scissors, there a tornado of eyes whose vision has become uncontrollable, elsewhere human eyes lost between that of a fish and those of a cat.
Fruit trampled on, bodies in flames, ears about to be burned, a half-woman, half-man face, a face recomposed outside of you and that no longer belongs to you.
Jonathas de Andrade shouts here the indigence of Brazilians who suffer daily infantilization inflicted on them by the political regimes that succeed one another at the head of Brazil.
