Jakob Lena Knebl and Ashley Hans Scheirl “Invitation of the Soft Machine and Her Angry Body Parts” Austrian Pavilion Venice Biennale Art Exhibition
Jakob Lena Knebl was born in 1970 in Baden, Austria, she lives and works in Vienna and Berlin.
Ashley Hans Scheirl is a transgender artist born in 1956 in Salzburg, Austria, she lives and works in Vienna.
The works of Jakob Lena Knebl and Ashley Hans Scheirl are exhibited in the Austrian Pavilion of the Giardini Biennale.
In his novel “The Soft Machine”, writer William S. Burroughs presents his vision of the decline of humanity in the face of drugs and dangerous excesses.
Burroughs describes the body as a soft machine, constantly besieged by a host of hungry parasites.
A vision of hell was taken up at the Austrian Pavilion by the two transgender artists Jakob Lena Knebl and Ashley Hans Scheirl.
They present to us bodies, which, like these artists themselves, are metamorphosing, transforming themselves in our modern cyber age.
Works in which bodies mingle merge into machines, into the objects of the modern world.
The sculptures and installations of these two artists are full of humour, colour, softness and mixed aggressiveness.
