Kazimir Malevich, Untitled Kazimir Malevich was born in Ukraine, in Kiev, in 1878.
In 1903 he studied art at the Moscow Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture.
Malevich participated in Modernist and Avant-Garde movements with Vasily Kandinsky, among others.
He exhibited at the Salon des Independants de Paris in 1914.
At the 1915 exhibition in St Petersburg "Last Futurist Exhibition," he presents his non-objective and geometric suprematist works.
In 1919 he began to explore the three-dimensional representation of Suprematism in architectural models.
He sided with the Bolshevik Revolution and got important administrative and art teaching positions.
Thus he was appointed as a teacher at the Institute for Art Nouveau founded and directed by Marc Chagall in Vitebsk.
While Chagall was on a trip to Moscow, Kazimir Malevich forced him out of school management, on behalf of the Suprematists, and was appointed director of the Institute for Art Nouveau.
Together with his students, Malevich founded the Suprematist group Unovis.
From 1922 to 1927, he taught at the Institute of Artistic Culture in St Petersburg and was particularly interested in architecture.
Kazimir Malevich, Untitled He then travelled to Germany and Europe where he met Jean Arp and Le Corbusier.
The Tretyakov Gallery dedicated an exhibition to him in Moscow in 1929.
1930, he got arrested, and most of his manuscripts destroyed because of his trip to Germany and his artist relations.
He died in Leningrad in 1935.
Kazimir Malevich's abstract work on display at the Peggy Guggenheim Collection dates from 1916.
It corresponds to Malevich's opinion that non-objective forms are merely reproductions of purely emotional sensations.
So, he rejects any notion of orientation, perspective, horizons and gravity in his works.
He chooses flat shapes with textured colours to create dynamism in the space included in the picture and designs different overlays and sizes to create the feeling of an expansive and infinite space.
