Paul Jackson Pollock was born in the United States, Wyoming, in 1912.

In 1928 he began studying painting at the School of Manual Arts in Los Angeles.

He then moved to New York to work for the WPA Federal Art Project from 1935 to 1942.

In 1943, Peggy Guggenheim, having discovered his talent, allowed him to exhibit in his New York gallery "Art of this Century".

But Peggy Guggenheim did not just put him on public view; she also offered him an employment contract to allow him to devote himself entirely to painting.

This contract remained effective until 1947.

Until 1947, one could feel Pablo Picasso and Surrealism's influence in Jackson Pollock's works, then his style asserted itself with the success we know.

His career was concise, 13 years, because of his death, at just 44, on August 11, 1956, in a car accident.

All Jackson Pollock's works exhibited at the Peggy Guggenheim Collection correspond to 1942–1947, during which Peggy Guggenheim supported him financially.
