Magritte Empire of Light | Voice of Space
René Magritte “Voice of Space” at the Peggy Guggenheim Collection in Venice in Italy
Painting - Oil on Canvas (72.7 x 54.2 cm) 1931Influenced by Giorgio de Chirico, René Magritte has worked to extract objects from their universe, to remove them from their primary function in such a way as to modify the perception we have, to confer them other meanings and a surreal irrationality.
An effect is obtained by also changing the actual proportions of Magritte's objects concerning the decor in which he decides to “place” them.
These three giant spheres floating in this banal country landscape make us think of unidentified flying objects, loudspeakers.
In any case, they sound, as the title of the painting suggests: “Voice of Space”.
