Andra Ursuta Venice Biennale International Art Exhibition
Andra Ursuta Sculptures Andra Ursuta, born in 1979 in Romania, lives and works in New York. Her works are exhibited at the Venice Art Biennale in the Corderie space at the Arsenal.
Her glass sculptures are made of fragments of female faces, which have the effect of a tragicomic contemplation of life.
To make them, she uses a 3D modelling program, followed by a print for each sculpture element.
She creates a wax mould from the printed elements to give birth to the final glass creation. Her sculptures are partially filled with liquid and could be reminiscent of elegant bottles filled with alcohol.
Andra Ursuta But this pretty facade is only appearance.
In fact, the shapes are amputated, disturbing, like the one where the artist puts on an alien's head as if it were a scarf tied under the chin.
In most of his sculptures, we perceive intrinsic violence as well as a disconcerting ambiguity: who are the victims and who are the executioners?
