Stanislav Kolíbal Venice Biennale International Art Exhibition
Stanislav Kolíbal was born on 11 December 1925 in Orlovà in the Czech Republic.
Stanislav Kolibal “The Beginning of Things”
Painting, Sculpture — Oil on wood 1963From 1945 to 1951, he studied at the Academy of Arts in Prague and then at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague from 1951 to 1954. He explains his work as follows:
“Identity between small and big things
The water in the reservoirs overflows like it does in a glass and
volcano lava flows like tears
A blade of grass, a house, a man bow
Are they going to fall or not?
That’s why I like to choose a square, a circle or a cube
They let me express myself on the tear and the lava at the same time
Stanislav Kolibal “Three Ways”
Painting — Oil on Canvas 1968
Therefore, for me, the square is not square, and the circle is not a circle nor the cube a cube.
[...] The search for the fusion of a certain perfection and inadequacy is what I am.
What changes alternately between what grows and what decays
What deviates from regularity
What can’t be completed
What can’t be repeated
Which won’t last.”
