Renate Bertlmann Venice Biennale International Art Exhibition
Renate Bertlmann’s exhibition “Discordo Ergo Sum” at the Austria Pavilion at the Venice Art Biennale 2019 is a rewriting of the famous “Cogito Ergo Sum”, but here we no longer think, we dispute, we are!
Renate Bertlmann challenges the supremacy of reason by dragging us into her insurgent world.
A world where love is also present, like the three words that line the exterior facade of the pavilion: “Amo Ergo Sum”. We no longer think, we dispute, we love!
To express her artistic thought, Renate Bertlmann plays with social symbols, contradictions and inversions of gender, trans, sexuality, everything is allowed.
We dispute and we like, like its bright red field of sword-roses that covers the pavilion's courtyard with glass blood.
Renate was born in Vienna, Austria, on February 28, 1943, and she works there.
