Yves Tanguy “Earrings for Peggy Guggenheim” Peggy Guggenheim Collection in Venice in Italy
Sculpture Painting - Silver, Gold, Pearls, Oil on Shell (paint on shell in gold and silver mounts) (3.7 x 7.1 x 1.6 cm) 1938Yves Tanguy offered these earrings to Peggy Guggenheim for his exhibition at the “Guggenheim Jeune Gallery” in London in 1938.
These earrings are certainly the smallest paintings painted by Tanguy.
At the opening of her New York gallery, “Art of This Century”, Peggy Guggenheim wore one of these earrings on one side, and the other she wore one of those made by Alexander Calder.
Peggy's showing she considered Surrealism and Abstraction on an equal level.
