Yves Tanguy “In an Indeterminate Place” (En Lieu oblique) at the Peggy Guggenheim Collection in Venice in Italy
Painting - Oil on Canvas (43 x 71.4 cm) March 1941In this painting in red white blue, Tanguy presents an alien landscape under an unreal light that reveals in the bottom left the shadow of two fantastic characters surrounded by strange objects.
In an unknown world, the two shadows evoke that of a child jumping next to his mother.
The presence of these vivid and colourful characters in contrast to this landscape without vegetation makes it less dramatic.
It does not make us uncomfortable as we would face a painting by Dali.
Everything is calmer here; one could almost talk about harmony, a simple and quiet life in an alien world.
