Pablo Picasso “Half-length Portrait of a Man in a Striped Jersey” Peggy Guggenheim Collection Venice
Painting - Gouache on Paper (63.1 x 45.6 cm) September 14, 1939
This striped knit man, painted by Picasso in 1939, could very well be a self-portrait.
Picasso wore quite often the Breton sailor shirt.
The Striped Jersey also allows him to create a very graphic and powerful work by repeating the sailor shirt's thick stripes.
A split face, multifaceted, in the light and the shadow.
