“The Poet” made in 1911, is a cubist work, more precisely from the beginning of analytical cubism, painted by Pablo Picasso when he worked with his friend Georges Braque.
A painting very close to Braque's “Man with a Guitar”.
Here, the degree of abstraction is pushed to the extreme, and the objects of the painting are barely recognizable.
Man is here totally deconstructed and re-created through lines and curves.
The face appears partly at the top of the board with its nose and moustache.
Under the right part of the moustache, we guess the pipe while the collar's round marks the neck.
This deconstruction of objects and characters into multiple elements and views will be the mark of Pablo Picasso's work for most of his career.
